BRIEF PROFILE+
Mr. Patel was born on April 26, 1926. He took his B.E. Civil Engineering First Class Honours standing First in the Bombay University with distinction marks, in 1948. He also stood First at Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) and Central Engineering Service (CES) examinations held by the UPSC in 1950. Mr. Patel`s field of specialization has been the planning, design, construction and operation of single and multi-purpose river valley projects for integrated basin/regional development by the coordinated use of ground and surface water resources. He has also been associated with the water policy, water law, water administration and water management taking into account pollutional, ecological and environmental aspects. He worked as a member of the Experts Committee constituted by the Government of India for investigating the causes of rise in costs of irrigation and multipurpose projects and member of the Western Yamuna Canal Augmentation Tubewell Schemes in Haryana, set up by the Government of India in September 1972. Mr. Patel has travelled several countries as leader. Member of Indian Delegations or for technical work pertaining to various projects. He was member of many professional societies. He was Additional Secretary to the Government of India and Chairman/Co-Chairman, Indo-Bangladesh Joint Rivers Commission, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Department of Irrigation), New Delhi. He also worked in the World Bank. He was Vice President of ICID from 1976-1979.
