Located on Tachiyazawa River basin in Shonai area in Yamagata prefecture, Japan, is hereby included in the ICID Register of World Heritage Irrigation Structures as a milestone in the history of agricultural development of Japan in the 17th century where an accurate survey, measurements, design and modernized technology led to the construction of the Kitadate irrigation systems which fostered a strong agricultural spirit on a foundation of rice cultivation.
