International Commission on Irrigation & Drainage Commission Interationale des Irrigation et du Drainage

Knowledge

International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), is a professional network that deals in scientific and technical areas, hence one of our key activities is managing the knowledge created and disseminating it among the wider public in order to fulfill our overall mission of sustainable development of agricultural water resources. As a global knowledge platform, we cater to a very diverse group of stakeholders. ICID plays a critical role in the field of irrigation, drainage and flood management by facilitating strategic communication and collaboration among scientific, engineering, policymaking, and water manager/user communities, striving to find sustainable solutions for a water-secure future.

As a professional network ICID is not mandated to conduct original research and build a knowledge base, its primary role in the ledge processes of its members and partners is to facilitate communication, collaboration and wider dissemination of knowledge produced. ICID collects, compiles and maintains the key data related to irrigation and drainage with respect to its member countries, and other countries. The database includes information such as irrigated area, drained area, arable and cropped area, population engaged in agriculture and others. Data is collected through National Committees of our member countries and complemented through sources such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Development Report by the World Bank, the Population Reference Bureau in Washington and others.

Over the years ICID has continuously taken initiatives to upgrade its ICT and related facilities to provide user-friendly access to the latest data, information, and knowledge products for our global users. Our upcoming Knowledge Portal would be a comprehensive one-stop search solution for the users. ILMS, MTD, and IrriReSearch initiatives are significant efforts in that direction.
