The reason behind the construction of Irukaike Reservoir in 1633 was the water scarcity in this area and its subsequent incessant struggles over the water. The river was dammed to build Irukaike Reservoir. And the extremely advanced technique of that day was employed for its construction.
However, the dam body of the reservoir was washed out frequently during the early years of construction. To respond to such a situation, a specialized person in reservoir construction was invited from a remote place and with his help a new technology called
