Minamiieki-kawaguchi-yusui Irrigation System
php // $cont=$directMemberDetailData['0']->Profile; ?>Minamiieki-kawaguchi-yusui Irrigation System is located at the southern foot of the central Aoyama plateau with a headwork in the midstream area of Kumozu-gawa river, categorized as class A (the most important class of rivers in Japan’s system). The area, which has unique shape rocks approaching to the both sides of Kumozu-gawa river, is a scenic area of Ieki Line and creating a beautiful valley. The head works harmonize with the landscape of the surrounding areas with fixed-crest weir of stone veneers, which forms a magnificent scenery.
Minamiieki-kawaguchi-yusui Irrigation System was established in 1190 which is the Heian Period, and Minamiieki-yu and Kwaguchi-yu irrigation system were combined in 1792 and continues up to today. The system, which are composed of the head works, main irrigation canal (about 7 km) and diversion work and etc, supply not only agricultural water to paddy field (360 ha), but also supply water for community livelihood and fire-fighting water as well.
With regard to the operation and maintenance of the facilities, they have been managed properly by farmers as well as non-farmers residents together for years, and the facilities themselves become a cultural legacy and treasure for the residents, based on the consciousness that our facilities need to be managed by ourselves.
