(7446) Septic tank
A water‑tight sedimentation tank for sewage in which the sludge settling on the bottom is allowed to digest and liquify by anaerobic bacterial action. The liquid effluent may be passed from the tank into the earth, or into a seepage tank in which it is filtered through sand or gravel before release.
