1 - A device for raising water through small lifts, consisting of an endless chain dipping below the water to be raised and running over a drum or wheel by which it is moved. In the most common form the chain has at intervals discs or lifts that fit the tube through which the ascending part passes and carries the water (illustrated). 2 ? See 4483.
